On a Passive Life

Life is not a passive activity

Life is not something that happens to you, it's something you do. Put another pithy way, sometimes you have to make your own adventures.

It's so easy to get trapped in the daily rut - same thing, every day. Get up, caffeine, work, chores, dinner, derp, sleep, repeat. No one is going to break you out of this cycle - you have to do it. Is is uncomfortable? Hell yes it is. Our lizard brain is constantly fighting change and convincing us that it's perfectly fine to keep things just the way they are, thank you. But the only person who's going to help you live a meaningful life is you.

Remember, always start small, go for the little victories. You don't need to completely upend your schedule to make some positive change. As a quick example, practice your musical instrument for ten minutes (just ten minutes!) a day.

Or go to the gym. That's it. Just get dressed, go, and show up. You're bound to pick up a weight or two while you're there. And since you're there, you might as well pick it back up for a second round.

Everyone dies, but not everyone truly lives.

There are so many pithy statements about a life well-lived because it's so important. Quick taking the passenger seat in life. You make the calls, you make the decisions. Take an active role in what you do every day.
